Hidden within a traditional village near Heraklion stands a remarkable family home dating back to the early 1900s. Preserved through generations, this authentic residence offers visitors a rare opportunity to experience the atmosphere of rural Crete as it once was.

At the heart of the property lies a historic stone wine cellar, complete with its original wine press, where generations of the family produced wine using traditional methods. As you step inside, surrounded by stone walls, old winemaking tools and family heirlooms, you will be transported to a different era.

The experience begins with a guided exploration of the small house and cellar, where your hosts will share stories of family life, local customs, agricultural traditions, and the important role that wine played in the social and economic life of Cretan villages.

You will then embark on a tasting journey through ten carefully selected Cretan wines, representing some of the island's most important indigenous grape varieties. Each wine is presented alongside stories about the vineyards, local terroir, and the centuries-old relationship between Crete and wine production.

The tasting is accompanied by a generous selection of local delicacies, including artisanal cheeses, traditional rusks, olives, honey, seasonal products, and authentic Cretan specialties carefully chosen to complement the wines.

However, this experience is about much more than wine.

As you explore the historic home, you will discover how Cretan families developed sustainable lifestyles long before modern concepts such as environmental responsibility, circular economy, and resource efficiency became part of public discussion.

Visitors will learn how nothing was wasted if it could be used again. Grape skins left after winemaking were transformed into famous traditional spirit Raki. Olive wood and vine cuttings became fuel. Food preservation techniques reduced waste. Household items were repaired and reused for generations. Animal and agricultural by-products returned to the land as natural fertilizers.

One of the most fascinating features of the house is its traditional underground water cistern. Rainwater was collected from the roof through a system of gutters and stored for use during the dry months. In a region where water has always been precious, this simple but ingenious system reflects the resourcefulness and environmental awareness of earlier generations.
